The term Krushcheby (Russian: Хрущобы) is in reference to the residential blocks built in the 1960s-70s in the Soviet Union. The term itself is a play on the Russian word for slum and the name of former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. The era in which these buildings were built span the later years of Khrushchev's career and the early Leonid Brezhnev era, though they are more associative with Khrushchev as evidenced by the conception of the term in question.
