Koth (Bhojpuri: कोठ) is a village in the Ballia District of Uttar Pradesh, India. As of 2011 census, this village had a population of 8,434.
History
In accordance with an old journal "Akhbar al Akhyar" written by Abdul-Haqq Dehlavi, this village was initially built by Mir Syed Mohammdad Ibrahim Saheb, the grand Qazi and commandar-in-chief of the royal army of Feroz shah Tughlaq in order to guard the area for defence and administrative purpose. For this purpose the earth of a vast area was excavated and dumped in the center to make it a high hill so that all distant area around it could be taken care of from its top. Raja Majhouli also helped Syed Ibrahim in this task of establishing the royal army center. Late Chandra Shekhar was a native of Ibrahimpatti. During any rainy season the excavated area presented a picturisque scene of a large lake around the hill. Although the hill has lost its original height but the ruins are still there and reminds its significant in a non hilly area of plain agricultural land.
