Konsole is a free and open-source terminal emulator which is part of KDE Applications. Konsole was originally written by Lars Doelle.
KDE applications, such as Konqueror, Krusader, Kate, Konversation, Dolphin and KDevelop use Konsole to provide embedded terminal functionality via Kpart.
As of July 2014, Yakuake, Konsole, Dolphin, Kate and KDE Telepathy, among others, are in the process of being ported to KDE Frameworks 5.
