Kolibri Kapital ASA is a Norwegian investment company established in year 2000 lends out money to small and medium-sized microfinance institutions in developing countries including Bolivia, Ecuador, Georgia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. These institutions provide credit/ small loans to poor individuals who are unable to obtain a loan through regular banks because they cannot provide security in terms of property or similar.

Kolibri Kapital raises capital primarily in the Norwegian market. The company is economically self-sustainable and its objective is to provide its shareholders with a moderate long-run economic return in addition to the social return on the investment.

Microfinance is seen as an effective alternative and addition to regular development assistance. The fact that Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, showed that microcredit was recognized as a tool to fight poverty and promote peace.

Kolibri Kapital's vision is to assist poor and low income individuals in developing countries and provide them the opportunity to realize their dreams and build better lives for themselves and their families by helping them to get access to the financial systems in their countries. Through small loans, poor people can be empowered to invest, create business opportunities, improve their living situation, and send their children to school.
