Profiles

Kitten Rescue is a nonprofit, all volunteer 501(c)(3) charity that operates one of the largest kitten and cat welfare and adoption centers in Los Angeles, California. The organization was founded in the spring of 1997, and aims to find loving homes for unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens, as well as to help Los Angeles become a no-kill city. It also offers help and information to the public on responsible pet ownership and care, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the proper maintenance and care of feral cat colonies. The group claims to have successfully placed over 10,000 cats into new homes since its inception and currently its volunteers place approximately 1,000 cats and kittens into new homes annually.

Since March 2006, Kitten Rescue has operated its own private cat sanctuary and boarding house called the Casitas Hotel for Cats in Atwater Village that houses up to 150 cats. However, most of the cats under the care of the organization are in volunteer foster homes that offer close attention to young kittens that need frequent bottle feeding and socialization. Cats needing treatment of injuries and illnesses are also placed in foster homes. Every cat is spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia virus and FIV, vaccinated, de-wormed, treated for fleas and microchipped. The group also holds adoption events at several Los Angeles area pet stores on weekends as well as an annual dinner called the Fur Ball.
