Kharkush also Khaṟkus (Persian: خر کش ‎‎; Mountain which attracts the sun) is a mountain of the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan. It is located in Ghazni Province.

Kharkusch is one of several mountains name in the Indo-Iranian cultural area or Greater Khorasan (Persian: خراسان بزرگ ‎‎) (old name) with the same name, especially in Persian-speaking countries such as Iran and Afghanistan.

Khorasan (Persian: خراسان ‎‎) is written Kharasan, read and pronounced by locals Khorasan. Khar (Persian: خر‎‎ is an abbreviation for Khor (Persian: خور‎‎ or Khorsheed (Persian: خورشيد‎‎ for sun). The sun was according to the Iranian mythology, the son of Mithra.
