His musical career began in Melbourne with the Adderly Smith Blues Band. He subsequently joined Sundown, led by Keith Glass, which was one of Australia's first country rock groups. This was followed by a successful stint in Country Radio (1972–73), after which he formed one of Australia's most successful country rock bands, The Dingoes. Following the Dingoes break up he formed several bands including the Tremors and tasted success with the Rattling Sabres featuring Robert Price on vocals.

They had a minor hit with "All Fired Up," which was subsequently covered by Pat Benatar. In 2005 he produced and played on the John Schumann and the Vagabond Crew album Lawson. In 2012 he released a solo album called Out Of The Shadows again featuring Robert Price on vocals.
