Kerewan

Kerewan is a town in the Gambia, Build by Mamadi Safiyatu Fatty some 400 years ago. Located beside the Miniminiyang Bolong, about 60 km from the capital Banjul. It is the Administrative headquarters of the North Bank Division.

Kerewan is the birthplace of Kitabu Kassama of University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia.

Kerewan has the following areas: Dinkareh, Banta SU, Korosumang and Area Council. Kerewan also have three main sectors or segments known as or locally called Kabilos: They are Ceesay Kunda, Fatty Kunda and Jawara Kunda. As the surname applies to the founder of the town, The Fatty becomes the village head called Alikalo. The Ceesays are the Imams and the Jawaras are the warriors. Apart from these three major Kabilolu, the town also has other significant settlers: the Hydaras (Sheriff Kunda), Jallow Kunda, Njai Kunda, etc. Dinkareh used to have a very good soccer team called Cannon.And in 1970s, Dinkareh also had a very good football team called Dinkareh Young Stars (D.Y.S.)

Since about 2005, efforts have been on-going by the Gambian President's International Award, Scottish Charity Gamscot and others to construct a Skills Centre to provide practical training for young Gambians in the town and surrounding area. As of May 2010, the building - which had been partially destroyed by storms on a number of occasions - was finally roofed and power supplied.
