As a high school sophomore at James River High School in Chesterfield Virginia she left home after her mother's fiancé raped her stating it was a difficult decision for anyone. It would soon be compounded by a horrific accident a month later in which both her mother Jeanette Wells and her then mother fiancé Richard Gomes were killed in a car accident. The events trials and tribulations have been described on several national interviews.
