Karnana (Urdu: کرنانہ ‎) also known as Akhtar Karnana is a town and Union Council (U/C Karnana 73) of Gujrat District in the Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is located at 32°39'35"N, 73°52'0"E and has an altitude of 233 metres (767 feet).

History of the region

After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the Sikhs invaded and occupied Gujrat District. During the period of British rule,Hafiz Ghulam Muhammad Ch.was a religious spiritual and herbal practitioner of Karnana.Hafiz had been helped and defended poor karnanian against powerful Hindu Khuttri Gujrat District increased in population and importance.

After the division of the subcontinent in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India and Muslim refugees from India settled in the Gujrat District. Now mainly Muslim families live in Karnana.

Geography

Approximately it is located 12.6 kilometers (7.8 mi) away from Lalamusa and 16.5 kilometers (10 mi) away from Dinga.Kharian and gujrat cities have same distance round about 30 km from Akhtar Karnana. It is a famous Town near to Lalamusa. People of Karnana generally go to Lalamusa for shoping. The neighboring towns are Chechian, Pir Jand, Jaura, Ghurko, Miana Chak, Lambor, Umar Chak, Bhola, Rakdand, Sukh Chainah, Dhola, Ban Kalas, Bani, Bashna, Dinga, Lalamusa, Jalaldin, Ranian, and Paal.

Transportation

A railway line of Pakistan Railways passes through Karnana, linking Lalamusa, Dinga, Mandi Bahauddin and Sargodha. There is Railway Station that had been Constructed in 1984 by the locals, notably 'Bau Akhtar Khatana' and started officially in 25 April 1984 It is named after that person. Akhtar Karnana Railway Station (Urdu: اختر کرنانہ ریلوے اسٹیشن ‎) .

But now these days people prefers to travel on their privat Cars, Motorcycles, or Rickshaws.

Because trains don't have strict time table and also the number of trains passing is decreased from 14 to 2 or 3 after the death of Benazir Butto in December 2007. Because they burnt a lot of trains.
