Kareivonys (Varėna)

Kareivonys is a village in Jakėnų eldership, Varėna district municipality, Alytus County, southeastern Lithuania. According to the 2001 census, the village had a population of 116 people. At the 2011 census, the population was 99.

Geography

In addition to Aujėdo and bottomless lakes, the eastern edge of Kareivonys is connected with Strėvos, Spengla, and the Kareveivonys pond.

History

The west of the village is Balceriškių Mound, and on the north side it is Masonry Strėvininkų mound. In 1995. Kareivonys discovered late Paleolithic and Mesolithic during the exploratory archaeological expedition, which makes them appear in administrative village record (VIII-V millennium BC. M. E.). However, this village was under region of Poles. Koreywiance in 1744 in Kietaviškių parish settlement list. Before the First World War, pastor K. Čepanas has established a secret Lithuanian schools.

It currently has two companies running: Kietaviškių abundance (greenhouses in winter) and Dominga Mill (wood processing).
