Kami (formerly known as Notable PDF) is an Auckland-based cloud-based company that is known for its document and files reader, editor and a collaborative tool which is also available in the Google Marketplace.

History

Headquartered in Auckland, Kami was founded in 2012 by Alliv Samson, Jordan Thoms and Hengjie Wang with Sam Altman as their investor. Kami is built upon HTML5 app for the browsers to make it easy and approachable tool while working online.

In 2014, Kami announced that its management was partnering with Google, under the Google for Work Partner program, in order to target education users.

Usage

The online use of Kami targets to facilitate the web users, being a Chrome extension that allows users to annotate PDF files, .docx, .pptx and image files from within the browser. The basic task of the tool is to make online documents easily usable in real life applications. The app leverages an easy to read and edit approach in the documents, thus, replacing the outdated and arduous printing, marking and then scanning processes. Kami finds uniqueness in the provision of web services for editing PDF documents at local level. As a result, the tool is able to offer offline editing to enhance the value of the application.

The company management plans to extend the tool's compatibility to other formats such as PDF, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, Photoshop. This extension includes the introduction of relevant annotation tools which will support the desired document extensions with the app.
