Kamalapuram, Khammam

Kamalapuram is a village in the Mudigonda mandal (sub-division) of the Khammam district, Telangana, India, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of Khammam. The village is developing under the influence of two major nearby cities, Khammam and Mudigonda. As of 2013, there is no primary emergency health centre in the village. Villagers travel to nearby cities for major hospital treatment. The nearest police station is at Mudigonda, is about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from the village.

Geography

Kamalapuram is situated between the neighbouring villages of Yalagondaswamy Gattu to the east, Nachepalli to the west, Vanamvari Kistapuram to the north and Banapuram to the south. The village occupies 2,909 acres (1,177 ha) at an elevation of 107 metres (351 ft) above sea level. Half of the total land is suitable for agriculture and irrigation. The water needed for irrigation is obtained from the Mangapuram Sagar canal throughout the year, and from the Venkatadri and Pundalayya lakes seasonally. The Venkatadri, Pundalayya and Challasamudram lakes are also famous as a fishing ground.

Transport

Most of the roads are either unmetalled or cart tracks. The State Government has initiated the building of a direct road between Khammam and Kamalapuram.

People and civil affairs

Agriculture is the main occupation of the villagers. Paddy, cotton and red chili are the main crops. 1,914 acres (775 ha) of the total land is currently under cultivation.

People of various castes and religions live in Kamalapuram. The languages spoken are Telugu and Urdu.

The village has two primary schools: Zilla Parishad School and Anganwadi Centre. Drinking water is supplied from a panchayat-administrated reservoir.

As of 2012, the voting population of the village is 2242 from a total population of 3213.
