The station was assigned the KZZJ call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on February 11, 1985.
New Sister Station
As of November 2015, KZZJ is in the process of adding another station. KKWZ-FM (95.3), currently licensed to Crary, ND, will move 65 miles west to Rugby. KKWZ will broadcast with 6kW from KZZJ's transmitter tower.
