KJIB-LP is a low-power television station in Houston, Texas. Self-dubbed "Houston Country Video TV 5," in 2014 it operated as a non-commercial channel programming classic music videos. Because of the limited reach of its signal, most viewers received TV 5 via an online stream -- www.kjib-webs.com. KJIB-LP had a permit to build a digital station on channel 31. Now broadcasting on Channel 6, it provides audio only "classic hits" programming from the JoeFM network.

History

The station formerly broadcast from the Clear Lake area on analog VHF channel 5, but those facilities were destroyed by Hurricane Ike in 2008 before the station was able to build out a digital facility. After Hurricane Ike, the station was displaced from its original digital assignment of channel 29, due to projected interference from KYLE-TV in College Station. (At the time, KYLE was planning to operate on channel 29 after the completion of the digital transition; the station has since moved to channel 28). KJIB-LP applied for a permit to move to channel 31 and to construct its antenna at the Missouri City tower farm. Although that construction permit was granted on September 10, 2009, it was never built.

In 2013, a Houston church withdrew their application for an LPFM radio station after receiving permission from the station owner to build analog VHF broadcast facilities for KJIB-LP and KVDO-LP, and to use said facilities until the FCC terminated all analog broadcasting. After a disagreement, the station's owner surrendered the license on June 2, 2014. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) cancelled the license on June 9, 2014. Church officials, believing that the station's owner is in breach of contract, continue to operate the station.
