K. M. Roy is a veteran journalist and writer from Kerala.

While studying for M.A. at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, in 1961, K.M. Roy joined as a subeditor in Keralaprakasham, a Malayalam daily owned by Mathai Manjooran and published from Kochi . After the studies Roy went on to work in Deshabandhu and later on in Keralabhushanam. He was a reporter in The Economic Times, The Hindu and the UNI. He retired as the General Editor of the Mangalam daily.

K.M. Roy has officiated as the president of Kerala Union of Working Journalists two times and also as the secretary general of Indian Federation of Working Journalists for 4 years starting from 1984.

Mr. Roy is a recipient of several awards for his service in journalism. The editorial he wrote on the Babri Mosque destruction earned him the Muttathu Varkey Foundation award for the best editorial in 1993. Other awards he received are the American FOKANA Award, Sahodaran Ayyappan award, Shivaram award, All India Catholic Union Lifetime Award, and the first C.P. Sreedharan Memorial media award.

He had travelled widely abroad. For the last 20 years, K.M. Roy has been writing the widely read column Irulum Velichavum ('darkness and light') in the Mangalam Weekly magazine. He has also written 9 books including fictional and non-fictional works.
