Jubilee Market is located in Jubilee Hall in Covent Garden, London.

Contents

The first market in Covent Garden piazza took place in 1654, but the Jubilee Market was not built until 1904. It is the only market in London to be wholly owned by traders, who strive to make more and more beautiful and interesting place. Traders decided to take over the market to save it from bankruptcy. They got together and, after a major renovation of the market itself, began in 1985 and lasted two years, had the honour of seeing their market opened by Queen Elizabeth II in person, on Aug. 5, 1987, as also recalls the headstone placed on one of the facade of the market.

During the week, the market has 3 different types of objects and different characters: Monday is entirely devoted to antiques, Tuesday to Thursday is the general market, while Saturday and Sunday are the two days dedicated to arts and crafts items.

Jubilee Market covers Tavistock Street, named after the then Duke of Bedford, Marquess of Tavistock.

The first puppet show in Britain took place in Jubilee Market in 1662.
