Juan Gutiérrez Moreno (c. 1780 – 1850) was a Spanish Doctor of Surgery. He served in the Hospital de la Caridad of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Biography
Juan Gutiérrez Moreno was born in Ronda (Spain) son of Juan Gutiérrez and Juana Moreno. He was married to Lorenza Moxica López de Castilla. In 1808 Gutiérrez was graduated with a Master's degree from the Royal College of Surgery of Cádiz. He arrived at the port of Montevideo on June 29, 1809.
Gutiérrez Moreno was the first Doctor of the Montevideo police. In 1843, he participated in the defense of the city during the Great Siege of Montevideo.
In 1830s, Juan Gutierrez Moreno performs several written works about rabies, and smallpox, two epidemics that had a catastrophic effect in Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
