Juan Báez de Alpoim (1643–1716) was an Argentine military regidor and alcalde of Buenos Aires, during the Viceroyalty of Peru.

Biography

Juan was born in Buenos Aires, christened on July 23, 1643 in the Metropolitan Cathedral, their parents were Amador Báez de Alpoim and Ana Romero de Santa Cruz. His wife Ana Hurtado de Mendoza, was descendant of Pedro Álvarez Holguín de Ulloa and Vasco Fernandes Coutinho. In 1667 Alpoim was elected mayor for the second time. In 1668 is appointed prosecutor. He also had served as captain of Company, and alférez real in the city. Alpoim was a powerful farmer, his farm had more than a thousand head of cattle. A very large amount in those days.

Juan Báez de Alpoim, is a descendant through his grandmother Margarita Cabral de Melo, of Peter I of Portugal and Inês de Castro, (great-granddaughter of Fernán Gutiérrez de Castro and Mélia Iñiguez de Mendoza).
