José Carlos de Almeida, best known as Zé Carlos (born in Presidente Bernardes, São Paulo State, November 14, 1968) is an association footballer.

Started career in 1990, and played for São José, Nacional, São Caetano, Portuguesa, União São João, São Paulo, Juventude, Matonense, Ponte Preta, Grêmio and Joinville.

He last played for Portuguesa in 2005 until May.

Zé Carlos had played only once for the Brazilian national team, as he managed to get selected for the roster of the 1998 FIFA World Cup due to injuries to other players. He did not play at all until the semifinal match where he was selected to start against the Netherlands. He did not play in the final and was never called up again, so his appearance in the semifinals of a World Cup ended up being his first and only international cap.
