John Taylor is a professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s and '60s, playing at representative level for Great Britain (non-Test matches), and Yorkshire, and at club level for Hull Kingston Rovers (twice), Castleford, and York, as a loose forward/lock, i.e. number 13, during the era of contested scrums.

Through injury, John Taylor missed Hull Kingston Rovers 5-13 defeat by Widnes in the 1964 Challenge Cup final during the 1963–64 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 9 May 1964, he left Hull Kingston Rovers for Castleford in 1965 for a transfer fee of £6,000 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £197,500 in 2013).
