John Mitchell (born August 28, 1986) is an American professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).

Playing career

Prior to turning professional, Mitchell attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he played four seasons of college hockey with the NCAA Division I Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team. On September 29, 2013, Mitchell, along with a draft pick, was traded to the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Mathieu Perreault. He was then reassigned directly to the Hershey Bears AHL training camp.

On the eve of the 2013–14 NHL trade deadline, Mitchell was included by the Capitals in the trade of Martin Erat to Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Chris Brown, Rostislav Klesla and a fourth-round pick in 2015 NHL Entry Draft on March 4, 2014. He was then assigned to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).

On August 5, 2014, the Dundee Stars of the EIHL announced they had signed Mitchell to a one-year contract.
