Vice-Admiral Sir John Stuart Crosbie Lea, KBE (4 June 1923 - 20 May 2015) was a Royal Navy officer who spent most of his career in submarines. Lea trained as an engineer but before he finished, and still aged only 20, saw action on the Sheffield off the Amalfi coast when the ship shelled German positions, and on the Glasgow as part of Operation Stonewall. In the late 1960s, he became deputy superintendent of the Clyde submarine base where his job was to prepare for the introduction of Polaris missile-firing submarines.
