John Koten

John Koten is the former CEO and editor in chief of Mansueto Ventures LLC, which publishes Inc. and Fast Company magazines.

The company was established in 2005 following the purchase of Inc. and Fast Company by Joe Mansueto, the Chicago-based entrepreneur who founded the mutual fund research company, Morningstar.

Inc. and Fast Company share the common goal of highlighting entrepreneurial and creative thinking in business. The company is participating in the revival of lower Manhattan from its headquarters one block north of Ground Zero in New York’s first LEED-certified, “green” office building.

In 2008, Fast Company was named “best publication” by the Delaney Report, an influential media-industry newsletter. It also earned a spot on both Adweek’s prestigious “Hot List” and on Advertising Age’s “A List”, which honor magazines for gains in advertising and circulation. In 2007, Editor & Publisher named fastcompany.com the “Best Magazine Web Site.” Inc. was named a finalist for a National Magazine Award given by the American Society of Magazine Editors.

From September 2002 until July 2005, Koten was editor of Inc. Koten partnered with former President Bill Clinton and the William J. Clinton Foundation to launch the Inner City Economic Initiative, which facilitates mentoring relationships between experienced entrepreneurs and emerging inner city businesses.
