John H. Steele (January 6, 1807 – January 11, 1871) was an American newspaper editor.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina and was living in Georgia by the 1830s. He served as secretary to George W. Crawford during his governorship and when he was Secretary of War under President Zachary Taylor. He edited Jared Whitaker's Daily Intelligencer from 1860 until his death. A few months later (in April) the newspaper also died after fierce competition from newcomer the Atlanta Constitution.
