John Gibson Wright (1837 – November 2, 1890) was an American Union brevet brigadier general during the period of the American Civil War. During the war, he led the 51st New York Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to the rank of major in March 1863. In December 1864, he was made a lieutenant colonel. He served in the Eastern Theater at Sulphur Springs, Bristoe Station, Second Bull Run, and Chantilly. At Petersburg, Wright was captured along with George Whitman, the brother of Walt Whitman. He received his appointment as brevet brigadier general dated to March 13, 1865.
