From 1903 to 1908 he was a Rockdale alderman, and he was active in the free trade cause. He was closely involved in the Fusion of anti-Labor parties in 1909, and served on the council of the Liberal, Nationalist and United Australia parties. From 1908 to 1934 he was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. Farleigh died at Camperdown in 1949.
