John Byrne (7 September 1934 - 18 November 2006) was a player for Shamrock Rovers in the 1950s, winning the league at least once with the first team and twice with their B team, as a forward scoring many goals. Despite this talent, he was never part of the Irish international squad.

He was born in Donnybrook, Dublin and lived most of his life in Dundrum, Dublin. After Shamrock Rovers he had a spell with a Welsh team before returning to Ireland, working in The HB dairy factory, Rathfarnham.

After a long illness involving Parkinson's disease and dementia, he died in Clonskeagh hospital on 18 November 2006, aged 72.
