John Brassil is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kerry constituency, upon being elected at the 2016 general election.

He gained the Fianna Fáil nomination in 2015, ahead of former North Kerry TD Tom McEllistrim, who lost his seat in 2011 and Councillor Norma Foley, who was unsuccessful in Election 2007. As Norma Moriarty, Fianna Fáil's other candidate in Kerry was based in the south of the constituency, Brassil held the monopoly in a traditionally Fianna Fáil region, North Kerry. When asked about local Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin, Brassil declared his disappointment that he did not receive a Ministry of State. He also stated his disgust that Michael and Danny Healy-Rae chose not to enter government when given the opportunity.
