John Carter

John A. Carter (born May 15, 1933) is a farmer and former politician in Newfoundland. He represented St. John's North in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1971 to 1989.

The son of Allan George Carter and Eda Mobel, he was born in St. John's and was educated at Bishop Feild College, at Saint Bonaventure's College and at Memorial University. He owned and operated Mount Scio Savoury Farms, a major producer of summer savoury in the Canadian Maritimes.

In 1960, Carter married Brenda Narjorie Murphy.

He was first elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1971 and was reelected in 1972, 1975, 1979, 1982 and 1985. Carter served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Education and Youth.
