The Jerung-class gunboats serve with the Malaysian Navy. Locally built by Hong-Leong Lurssen Shipyards, the Jerungs are based on the Lurssen FPB/TNC-45 fast attack craft. The Jerong-class is equipped only with 57mm and 40mm guns for close-in combat and fire support, unlike Malaysia's missile-armed FAC. Peacetime duties include patrol of the Exclusive Economic Zone, interception of illegal immigrants and anti-piracy operations. They are too small and too under-armed for use in conventional warfare or in open waters.
