Jean paul coussan discusses candidacy for louisiana house district 45

Jean Paul Philip Coussan, known as John-Paul Coussan (born August 1978), is an American lawyer and politician from Lafayette, Louisiana who since 2016 has represented District 45 in the Louisiana House of Representatives.

In the runoff election held on November 21, 2015, Coussan narrowly defeated fellow Republican Andre' Comeaux, 5,765 votes (51.2 percent) to 5,505 (48.8 percent). The two had emerged as the top candidates from the October 24 primary election in which a third contender, Jan Swift, was eliminated from further consideration. Upon his election, Coussan vowed to focus on the budget in reference to higher education and health care. He also pledged support for infrastructure projects.

Coussan graduated from the Roman Catholic-affiliated St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette and Louisiana State University and the Louisiana State University Law Center, both in Baton Rouge.
