Introduction
The Vidyalaya functions under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Shillong region. The Vidyalaya falls under Cluster-C of Cluster level competitions under the region. Education in the Vidyalaya is free of cost.
Admission
Admission to the Vidyalaya is made through a National Level Competitive Examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education and the children are admitted at class VI level. All the children who have studied in and passed Class V from any recognized school of the district and are between 9 and 13 years of age are eligible to appear Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya selection test (JNVST) for Class VI. A total of 75% of seats are reserved for rural children and a minimum of 33% of seats are reserved for girls. SCs/STs also have due reservations of 15% & 7% respectively. Children are also being admitted against the vacant seats in class IX and in class XI through a Regional Level Examination.
Migration
The main objective of the Samiti’s Migration Policy in the JNVs is to promote and imbibe National integration in society and upon the minds of learners to develop a stronger sense of nationalism and brotherhood. A major step in this direction is the scheme of migration executed for class IX students. JNV Dhalai is linked with JNV Saran, Patna under the Migration policy of the Samiti.
