Jarko Zavi Jarko Zavi

Jarko Zavi was a Czech-born Canadian ceramist and sculptor who lived and worked principally in Ontario. He died at Brighton, Ontario in 1987. Zavi was a prominent Czech ceramist who fled to Canada in 1941 due to the outbreak of World War II. He was a prominent member of the Czech emigree community who helped promote cultural institutions in Toronto. During his lifetime, Zavi's small animal statues proved to be very popular with buyers. He also produced decorative plates with animal motifs. He maintained his studio practice as a lone artist who did not participate in the gallery and museum displays.
