Analysis
This portrait is different from his kind. A combination of light and dusk. The actual highlight facial features, such as reduced descriptive details. This portrait of an unknown man has for a long time been considered the only original work of Jan Kupiecka in the collections of Slovak galleries and museums. The picture is later signature and date - around 1709 Based on comparisons, it is considered that self-portrait of the artist from about 1700; in the monograph of Eduard A. Safarik, it is assumed that the work is an early self-portrait of significantly young artist Franz Anton Palko. The Italian period of the artist is very poorly known. The only proven his picture of that time was "Portrait of a man" ("Self-Portrait"). His work focuses mainly on painting portraits. Jan Kupiecka is one of the brightest representatives of the Central European Baroque.
