James Sturgis Pray (February 26, 1871 - February 24, 1929), was president of the American Society of Landscape Artists. He was chairman of the School of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University.

Biography

James Sturgis Pray was born on February 26, 1871 in Boston, Massachusetts.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1898. From 1898 to 1903, he worked for the Olmsted Brothers. He married Florence Mabel Nichols (born 1873) on October 30, 1901 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and had a son, Benjamin Sturgis Pray (born 1904).

In 1908, he succeeded Frederick Law Olmsted as chairman of the School of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University.

He died on February 24, 1929 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
