James Lawless is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kildare North constituency, upon being elected at the 2016 general election.
He had been a member of Kildare County Council from 2014 to 2016. James topped the poll in the 2014 local elections with 2,137 votes, the highest result ever recorded for the Naas electoral area.
Whilst a member of Kildare County Council, James served as Mayor of Naas prior to his election to Dáil Eireann.
James qualified as a Barrister after initially working in I.T. and was called to the Bar the year before the 2016 general election.
In May 2016 James was appointed by the party leader Micheál Martin TD as Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Science, Technology, Research and Development. He is a member of the Energy & Communications Oireachtas Committee.
