James Jonathan Chapman (born 2 November 1979) is an Australian national, Olympic representative and Olympic medal winning rower.

Education

Raised in Sydney, Chapman attended Newington College where he was coached by Olympian and fellow Old Newingtonian Michael Morgan OAM and deputy headmaster Robert Buntine. In 1997 he was a member of the Newington Head of the River winning 1st VIII. He studied Accounting at Sydney's University of Technology.

Rowing

His senior rowing has been done with the Sydney Rowing Club. For twelve of the 13 years from 2003 to 2015 he was seated in the New South Wales state VIII which contested the Kings Cup at the Australian Rowing Championships. In 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Chapman was part of New South Wales crews which were victorious. He was a reserve in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, came 4th in the 2003 World Championships, 2nd in the 2000 U23 World Championships 2000, 1st in the King’s Interstate Cup 2004 (breaking the NSW drought of 20 years), as well as six more times Kings Cup winner, and 4th in the World Championships 2006 in the men's eight. He rowed for Australia in the men's eight at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He is a silver medalist from the 2011 World Rowing Championships and at the 2012 London Olympics, Chapman won a silver medal in the Australian men's coxless four.

Banking

From 1998, Chapman worked at Westpac starting as a teller, completing his Accounting Degree. Chapman left banking in 2015, as an Associate Director in Westpac Institutional Banking (WIB) to start an MBA at Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
