Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, is reported to have opposed Adam in many occasions, they have different opposing views on western education, and general understanding of what is right and wrong in islam, Adam called him the "leader of young people". Their bitter disagreement led to an assassination plot which was carried out by Yusuf followers, and Ja'afar was killed in his mosque during the early morning prayers.They both preached in Maiduguri's Indimi Mosque, which was attended by the Deputy Governor of Borno. They are reported to have split some time in 2002-4.
Adam's death
Adam was shot dead at his mosque in the northern city of Kano in April 2007.
