J. Smith (dates of birth and death unknown) was an English cricketer active in the mid-1840s, appearing in two first-class cricket matches.

Smith made his debut in first-class cricket for the Gentlemen of Nottinghamshire against the Players of Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in 1844. He made a second appearance in first-class cricket the following year for the North of England against the Marylebone Cricket Club, which was also played at Trent Bridge. He scored a total of 28 runs across the two matches, with a top score of 13.
