József Katona (September 12, 1941 – December 26, 2016) was a freestyle swimmer from Hungary, who competed in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1960. He was born in Eger. His best individual result came in 1960, when he placed fifth in 1500 m freestyle. Four years later he came eighth in 1500 m freestyle. At the European Championships he won a silver and a bronze medal in 1958, and became European champion in 1500 m freestyle in 1962.
