Italy was represented by Claudio Villa, with the song '"Non andare più lontano", at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 8 April in Luxembourg City. As always until this date, broadcaster RAI chose one of the winning performers from the year's Sanremo Music Festival as their singer, but for the first time they opted not to send the winning Sanremo song ("Non pensare a me") as their entry. This was Villa's second Eurovision appearance, having previously participated in the 1962 contest.
At Eurovision
On the night of the final Villa performed 16th in the running order, following Yugoslavia and preceding Ireland. The song was a traditional dramatic Italian ballad, but with the general Eurovision trend by this time being towards songs of a more contemporary nature, it seemed rather dated in style. At the close of the voting "Non andare più lontano" had picked up 4 points, placing Italy 11th of the 17 entries.
