It's About a Little Bird is a 2013 children's picture book written and illustrated by American actress-photographer Jessica Lange. The fairy tale, however, partly based on a true story includes such literary genre as fantasy, featuring also elements of adventure novel and mystery fiction. The main story itself, it revolves around friendship, love and family determination, imagination and exploration.
The work originally created for her own grandchildren, is an adventure of two sisters named Ilse and Adah, who find a golden birdcage in their grandmother's barn. The used black-and-white photographs taken by artist were - in addition - illustrated using the technique of old-fashioned color hand tinting.
Critical response
Entertainment Weekly wrote in their review "the artwork in this singularly beautiful children's book, featuring photos hand-tinted by the American Horror Story star, will captivate kids as will the tale of two girls who learn the family story behind an old birdcage".
