Irreligion in Turkey is uncommon among Turks, as Islam is the predominant faith. It is difficult to quantify the number of atheists or agnostics in Turkey, as they are not officially counted in the census of the country. Recent polls suggest that 4.5 million of people were irreligious in 2013. Polls conducted by the same institutions suggestted that in 2015 that number reached to 5.5 million of people which indicates that roughly 9.4% of Turkish citizens do not have a religion. The same data also suggests that 85% of all irreligious people are younger than 35. There is a great stigma attached to being an atheist in Turkey, so many Turkish atheists communicate with each other via the internet.
