The Irish National Sailing School is a privately owned public sailing facility in Dún Laoghaire, South County Dublin. Originally set up as the Dún Laoghaire Sailing School by Alistair Rumball in 1972, the school was located above the old Viking Marine premises, which the Rumball brothers ran until 1999 when they sold that business on.
In the early 1990s Alistair Rumball acquired the building which housed the old Nautical College on Dún Laoghaire's West Pier and set up the new base of the Irish National Sailing School there. The business went up and up and today represents Ireland's foremost sailing school, running a children's sailing camp throughout the summer, at halloween and at Easter. Adults courses are run from February to November. Transition year courses are run throughout the year with many schools from Dublin participating in the programme.
Their fleet stands at over 200 boats, consisting of 83 Topper Dinghies, 42 Laser Pico Dinghies, 26 Optimist Dinghies, 6 Laser IIs, 26 Topaz Magnos, 1 Laser Vago, 2 RS Fevas, 2 49ers Dinghies, 8 Squib Keelboats, 7 Cork 1720 Sportsboats and 1 38 ft Reflex, Lynx, also a fleet of over 25 Powerboats, made up of Tiller Arm and Rigid Inflatables. The fleet is tended to by their two full-time maintenance team members at their Boathouse in Dún Laoghaire Harbour.
