This was the first time that the Liberal-Democrats won a seat in the St Margarets ward. Inga Lockington gained one of the ward's 3 seats from the Conservatives. She has held it ever since. The ward had been solidly Conservative for a century.

After the election, the composition of the council was

  • Labour 37
  • Conservative 10
