The International Business School (IBS) is a private institution of higher education with campuses in Nuremberg and Lippstadt (Germany). The IBS offers undergraduate programmes in collaboration with the University of Sunderland as well as postgraduate programmes with the University of Surrey.

Contents

Founded in 1984 in Lippstadt, the International Business School was among the first private business schools to enter the German market. Later campuses in Bad Nauheim, Berlin and Nuremberg have been added. As of today, the school offers its academic programmes in Lippstadt and Nuremberg to prepare its students for management positions in both multinationals as well as for SMEs.

Diploma in International Business Studies

The International Business School has a hands-on approach that emphasises internationality, soft skills and application of theoretical knowledge. Module contents include relevant theory of today's business environment. They are taught by both academics and experienced professionals with strong academic credentials in German (around 80%) and English (around 20%). The Diploma in International Business Studies is an intensive three years undergraduate business programme. During the second half students focus on the following majors:

  • Hotel and Tourism Management
  • Media, Culture and Event Management
  • Business Psychology and Human Resources
  • Real Estate Management
  • Sports Management
  • Besides English as a foreign language, students must choose a second foreign language for their studies:

  • Spanish
  • French
  • Chinese
  • Finally, the IBS curriculum includes two compulsory internships in Germany and abroad during the summer breaks. Students may also choose to do both internships abroad. The final thesis is usually also written on a practical business issue in cooperation with a company.

    Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business Management

    In cooperation with the University of Sunderland, students have the chance to attain a second degree in business management. This requires additional course to be taken: Management Accounting, Strategic Management, Management of Project, Strategic Management of Human Resources, Marketing Strategy, Contemporary Developments in Business and Management.

    Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Tourism and Hospitality Management

    In cooperation with the University of Sunderland a part-time B.Sc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management is offered at the Lippstadt campus.

    Executive MBA and DBA

    With the University of Surrey, a Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) as well as a part-time Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is offered at the Lippstadt campus. Both programmes are taught in English and AACSB accredited - the MBA is also accredited by the Association of MBAs.     Panel Discussion and Symposium

    Regularly IBS-students organise a panel discussion/symposium on current topics in business, economics, politics and culture. The event is an opportunity for students, businessmen and politicians to network.

    Graduation Ceremony

    Graduation at German universities has traditionally been rather informal and of minor importance. The IBS, however, follows the tradition of their British partners in Sunderland and Surrey. The annual graduation ceremony peaks in a convocation in which students (wearing academic dress with gown and mortarboard) receive their degree certificates. At the same time there is an increasing trend that reintroduces academic dress even to some of the old German universities.

    Field Trips

    During term time students have the opportunity to visit a number of companies. Past field trips have been to: RTL Television, QVC, Bertelsmann, Datev, Adidas, 1. FCN and Jochen Schweizer among others.
