Institute of communication technologies (ICT) previously known as National Post Graduate Institute of Telecommunication and Informatics is a part of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd. (PTCL). NPGIT&I was established in December 1992 under a Pak-French protocol for imparting the latest knowledge in the areas of telecommunication, information technology and management.

In Dec 2002 NPGIT&I has been merged with the Central Telecommunication Research Laboratories to form ICT as an autonomous body to function as a Centre of Excellence. CTRL was established in 1980 under PTCL with the collaboration of JICA Japan. The purpose of CTRL was to promote research in the area of telecommunication. CTRL has carried out number of research projects in the telecommunications field.

ICT is on its way to train PTCL employees as well as private students. Currently MS-Telecom Engineering, MS-Telecom Engineering Management, Cisco Networking Academy Programme, Academy for ORACLE and Executive Short Courses Programmes are running within the ICT Campus while PhD in Telecom Engineering is running with cooperation of BUPT (China) in China.
