Description

Insight Venture Partners was founded in 1995 by Jeff Horing and Jerry Murdock. It has raised $7.6 billion of capital to invest, including over $2.5 billion in 2013, and over $4 billion in 2015. Their executive advisory board has included Robert Rubin (chairman of Citigroup and US Secretary of the Treasury) and Steve Friedman (chairman of the United States President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and former chairman of Goldman Sachs). By 2006, OpenView Venture Partners was spun out to handle smaller investments.

Insight Venture Partners has raised nine funds and invested in more than 250 companies, of which 30 have achieved initial public offerings (IPOs). Fortune magazine listed it as one of the top-performing 20 funds as determined by cumulative distribution divided by called capital from 2000-2011. The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) reported over $100 million invested in two Insight funds by 2011, with internal rate of return over 20%. Investments include Twitter, Chegg, Tumblr, Flipboard, Zumba, SpareFoot, Quest Software, Jagex, Virgin Pulse (part of Virgin Group), Hootsuite, Mirantis, and Hotel Urbano (in Brazil).
