The Indy 100 is a British share index launched by The Independent newspaper in February 2006. It was formulated in response to the increase in the number of companies in the FTSE 100 that make all or most of their sales and profits overseas, leading to accusations that the index is no longer representative of the British economy. Like the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the component companies are chosen by a selection panel and not purely because of the exchange where they are listed and their market capitalization.
